Think about the most effective person you know. The person who is not only good at her job but also seems happy in her work. She is busy. Hardworking. Engaged. Successful. Other people want work with her. She always seems to get the best assignment. Things always seem to work out for her.
Do you have someone in mind?
You look at her and think. You lucky devil. How did you find that job? How did you find a job that fits you so well?
It is a trick question, because when you look at her closely, you discover that she did not find this job. She build it. She took a generic job description --- check the online posting boards for a million examples --- and then week by week, that strengthened her away from those that did not. She pushed and she pushed, her stack of blue cards growing, until best of her job become most of her job.
She slowly but deliberately rewrote her job description under her boss's nose.
So should you.
--- Marcus Buckingham, The Truth about you ---
You will know the answer. You did not find it. You build it. A little each week, and a lot over time.
